About
Why StatChecker.app Exists
This tool was built by someone who made a living betting — and then had that living taken away by the bookmakers. What you see here is what I wish had existed when I needed it.
The background
A career built on data, not gut feel
My relationship with sports data started in high school, sitting in weekly stats meetings with the head coach of an NZNBL basketball team. That early exposure to how coaches actually use numbers — not box scores, but patterns and matchup data — shaped how I think about sport.
I went on to coach basketball at NBL1 level and in the Basketball New Zealand junior programme. Coaching at that level forces you to think probabilistically: what does this player actually do under pressure? What does the data say versus what the eye test says? Often they disagree, and the data is right.
My MBA deepened the formal side — statistics, probability, databases — and I currently work as a Data Specialist in EdTech. But the thread running through all of it is the same: use data to find the truth faster than the other side does.

Black Swan Bets
Running a profitable tipping operation
Before StatChecker.app, I co-founded Black Swan Bets — a professional sports tipping operation that ran profitably for years with multiple tippers across NBA, EPL, and UFC.
The edge wasn't tips. It was tooling. I built internal research systems that automated what used to take hours and collapsed it into minutes. Data pipelines that pulled, cleaned, and surfaced the numbers that actually mattered. Analysis tools designed around how a professional bettor thinks, not how a fan thinks.
The models started from data alone — what does history actually say? — and were then improved by layering expert judgment on top. That combination of clean data foundation and human context is what made the operation work.
I was a profitable professional NBA player prop bettor for years before being restricted by bookmakers across Australia. When you consistently win, they limit you. That restriction is what pushed me to build something that helps everyone else see what I could see.
StatChecker.app
The same logic, applied to AFL props
StatChecker.app is the same operating principle as Black Swan Bets, applied to AFL player prop betting and made available to anyone.
Every decision about how data is displayed, what calculations are shown, how the weighted algorithm works — all of it is designed around one question: what does a bettor actually need to know to understand the real state of play for this bet?
Not fan stats. Not raw career averages that blur everything together. Properly segmented, weighted historical performance data, surfaced in seconds. The kind of analysis that would take you 20 minutes per leg on other sites.
What's next
Intentional MVP, real user feedback, NBA next
We launched StatChecker.app deliberately as an MVP. A fast, focused tool that does the core job well — and then improves based on what real users say they actually need.
Every new stat, feature, and update since launch has come from user feedback. Tackles and marks, SGM multi-leg improvements, filters that carry the right context — all of it driven by what punters tell us would make their research faster or more accurate.
NBA 2026/27 is well on track to be our second sport. The underlying architecture was always designed with multi-sport in mind, and the same model logic that worked at Black Swan Bets applies directly to NBA player props.
